The 4K video format, commonly known as Ultra HD or UHD, is the forthcoming video format, with four times higher pixels than Full HD 1080p, allowing for more information and smoother consumption of digital content. The amount of pixels on the lateral edge of the picture being shown back is referred to as 4K.

To compare 4K to other common formats, consider that it has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels (horizontal x vertical), FULL HD 1920 x 1080 pixels, and HD 1280 x 720 pixels. This format is gaining in popularity and is quickly becoming the standard for the creation and enjoyment of digital video content. Many cameras now capture 4K video, including household and corporate cameras, and there are even commercial anamorphic lenses that record in 8K format, showing that progress is set to improve the quality of video resolution.

The GeForce RTX 3080 is a real powerhouse that can handle even the highest challenging game system needs available today. Suitable of playing games that demand DirectX 12 or above. Here, we take a deeper look at the GeForce RTX 3080‘s performance at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K screen resolutions. This is looking at the Ultra graphics levels in specifically to see what kind of FPS this graphics card can get.

Getting a 1440p 240Hz display is probably the perfect way to make the RTX 3080 sweat. These games are at the cutting edge of technology and offer an unrivaled e-sports encounter. Samsung’s Odyssey G7 is currently the finest 1440p 240Hz monitor on the market.

The Odyssey G7 is a fantastic gaming monitor that is available in 27″ and 32″ sizes. It has the quickest reaction time on the market for gaming monitors, as well as superb visual quality and clarity that puts it miles beyond of monitors with IPS panels. Although the color gamut is smaller than that of the finest IPS displays, it is still rather excellent. Despite the fact that it employs a VA panel, it has outstanding reaction times and only shows ghosts in dim settings. You get vibrant colors and dark, as well as sufficient of workspace at 32 inches.

Although the viewing ratios aren’t ideal, films and videogames look fantastic on this display when not viewed at an angle. At around 400 nits, peak brightness is likewise fairly high. While Samsung succeeded to attain a lightning-fast reaction time on the G7’s VA panel, it failed to address the restricted viewing angles. There’s also the problem of the severe, 1000R, curve, which for some people is a deal-breaker.

  • It has G-SYNC compatibility and inbuilt Free Sync support.
  • The contrast proportion is excellent.
  • Input latency is quite minimal.

What Could Be Better:

  • In HDR, it doesn’t become too bright.
  • Sight angles are restricted.
  • The swivel and tilt ranges are limited.
  • It consumes a lot of desk space.

MSI has gone all out with the Optix MPG 341CQR, a 34-inch ultra-wide display. This monitor offers a refreshing rate of 144Hz and a Free sync function that has been proven to be compliant with Nvidia’s G-Sync solution, thanks to VA displays with an 1800mm curve radius. The screens are bright and high-quality, with a strong contrasting ratio, acceptable black levels, and quick reaction times.

The contrasts are higher than an IPS panel can provide. Other characteristics include a USB-C connector for connecting a laptop and a built-in camera, both of which are useful in the new world of “working remotely.”

The 21:9 ultra wide format gives you more lateral screen area for improved efficiency, as well as a larger field of vision in computer games for a more realistic playing experience – as long as the application supports 21:9. With a 3440×1440 quality and a pixel resolution of around 110 PPI, you’ll have enough of screen real estate as well as crisp and crisp details without needing to scale.

  • Up to 144Hz AMD Free Sync.
  • There are several gameplay options available, including 1ms MPRT.

  • Moderate buffering, particularly in darker settings, in fast-paced games.
  • The price is increased by high-end features such as Game Sensing and a built-in camera.
  • The implementation of HDR support is mostly for marketing purposes.

What to Look For in a Gaming Monitor?

What refresh rate (hz) to choose?

A higher refresh rate will improve the fluidity of games and can give an advantage on competitive games, especially FPS. We recommend that you choose a screen with a refresh rate higher than 100 Hz for the majority of games and that you opt for 144 Hz models (and even 240 Hz if you have a powerful graphics card) for fans of CS:GO, Fortnite, Overwatch, Apex Legends, PUBG or Call of Duty: Warzone.

G-SYNC or FREESYNC?

G-Sync (Nvidia) and FreeSync (AMD) technologies allow, in short, the screen to synchronize its refresh rate with the frame rate in play to allow a better rendering without lag. This improves the rendering of the image without the disadvantages of vertical synchronization if the refresh rate of the screen is higher than the frames per second generated by the graphics card.

FreeSync displays are, for the most part, compatible with Nvidia graphics cards in addition to those from AMD. However, if you have an AMD graphics card, you will have to choose a FreeSync display.

AMD Freesync technology has 3 levels:

  • FreeSync must at least guarantee low image display latency (less than 100ms), low flicker and the panel must be able to effectively combat image tearing.
  • FreeSync Premium must check the above boxes plus a minimum 120Hz Full HD panel and be compatible with Low Framerate Compensation (see below). It is this tier that embodies the new 2020 feature.
  • FreeSync Premium Pro adds two more strings to its bow. HDR, on the one hand, both for images and games, HDR 400 minimum, and, on the other hand, a very low latency both in HDR and SDR. Games are also natively optimized FreeSync Premium Pro and are listed on the AMD website.
Low Framerate Compensation (LFC), to put it simply, is a technology based on algorithms that aims to ensure continuity of fluidity even when the low hardware refresh limit of the screen is reached (usually 24 Hz).

Nvidia Gsync also has three levels:

  • G-Sync Compatible: it must be able to handle speed variations over consistent ranges (Nvidia does not say more), it must not flicker, the image stream and the display must be in perfect harmony (no blanking), and no artifacts must appear on the screen.
Note: some G-Sync Compatible screens may be FreeSync models.
  • G-Sync: it must embody Nvidia components, meet the Nvidia specifications (Adaptive Sync enabled by default) and have passed more than 300 tests of image quality. Not to mention factory calibration. It must also offer a wide range of refresh rates (1 Hz minimum), which can be finely adjusted, and have an overdrive function.
As an option, it can offer a possible overclocking speed and a motion blur reduction system.
  • G-Sync Ultimate: the Nvidia components are here of superior class. The panel must be HDR1000 compatible and display large images (1440p at least). The speed and amplitude of the refresh rate must be very high. The latency must be very low, the backlight must be in several points and the colorimetric range must be consistent (DCI-P3 compatible, for example).

HDMI OR DISPLAYPORT?

The latest graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD offer, for the most part, a single HDMI port for multiple DisplayPort. There’s a reason for this: the current DisplayPort standards (1.2 to 1.4) allow more data to be carried than the HDMI ports before its latest revisions (2.0/2.1). It is therefore important to use DisplayPort on your screen(s) and on your PC to display games with a high refresh rate and resolution. For consoles, you must of course use the HDMI port as on your TV.

FULL HD, 1440P or 4K: Which Resolution to choose?

Image quality is an increasingly important criterion when choosing a gaming PC screen. While most devices today are content to offer Full HD, many manufacturers are betting on 4K. The ambition is to impress the player with ever more realistic textures coupled with faithful colors. Be careful, however, and remember to check your computer’s configuration. To display beautiful images, you need a suitable graphics card and a first-rate processor. That’s why choosing the intermediate definition, 1440p, can be a good solution. Indeed, more PCs are capable of running games in 1440p, equivalent to 2K.

What is the point of a Curved Monitor?

Curved monitor for the best gaming monitor for rtx 3080
Curved Monitor

Curved screens are becoming more and more common, especially for gaming use. So why are they preferred by many gamers? Several advantages are put forward. First of all, the immersion is better. The distortion on the edges of the image is also more limited. In addition, a curved screen fits the human field of vision better, and the distances your eyes have to travel to see the entire image displayed will be less, which reduces eye strain.

TN vs. VA vs. IPS Which Monitor Panel is Best for Gaming?

tn vs va vs IPS Panel Type
TN vs. VA vs. IPS

To choose a panel suitable for video games – it must absolutely be responsive, offer a good viewing angle, excellent contrast and high colorimetry.

For video games, choose either IPS (In-Plane Switching) or TN (Twisted Nematic) panels. Just pay attention to the response time of IPS which should be less than 5 ms to play fast games like FPS. IPS panels are gradually taking over the market, the technology has evolved and response times are now close to TN panels.

Final Thoughts

Because the RTX 3080 has enough capability to run games at its full resolution, which is comparable to a twin 1440p configuration, gaming on a hyper ultra wide display like the recently announced Samsung Odyssey G9 should be a wonderful encounter. Those who choose the RTX 3080 must have a display with a resolution of at the minimum 1440p 144Hz. Even at 240Hz, 1080p isn’t the greatest option for this GPU. 1440p @ 144Hz or 240Hz, 1440p Ultra wide at 144Hz, or 4K @ 60Hz are the highlights. You may utilize a 4K @ 144Hz monitor if you wish to operate in 4K and enjoy both solitary player and multiplayer titles.

And above all have fun with your new gaming screen!
