Dominoes Rules

There are a multitude of ways to play dominoes! In this article I will show you the classic domino rule as well as the main variations of the game.

Rule of classical dominoes games

  • 28 dominoes
  • 2 to 4 players
  • 2 players, 7 dominoes per player
  • with 3 or 4 players, 6 dominoes per player
dominoes rules

Whoever has the strongest domino begins. The dominoes must be placed one after the other by combining them (i.e. one side of the domino placed must have the same number of points as the domino on the table).

The doubles are placed perpendicularly. Each player keeps their dominoes hidden, out of sight of the other players. When a player has no dominoes to play he “sulks”, i.e. he passes his turn. The first player who has placed all his dominoes has won. If no one puts down all his dominoes, the player with the least amount left wins.

Variant: with pickaxe

  • 28 dominoes
  • 2 to 4 players
  • 2 players, 7 dominoes per player
  • with 3 or 4 players, 6 dominoes per player

Whoever has the strongest dominoes goes first. The dominoes must be placed one after the other and combined. The doubles are placed perpendicularly.

When a player has no dominoes to play, he or she picks a domino from the heel until he or she draws a domino that he or she can place, and the first player to place all of his or her dominoes wins. If no one places all their dominoes, the one with the least amount left wins.

Variant: in several sleeves

  • 28 dominoes
  • 2 to 4 players
  • 2 players, 7 dominoes per player
  • with 3 or 4 players, 6 dominoes per player

Whoever has the strongest dominoes goes first. The dominoes must be placed one after the other in combination (i.e. one of the sides of the domino placed must have the same number of points as the domino on the table). The doubles are placed perpendicularly.

When a player does not have a domino to place, he or she picks from the heel until one is found. The first player who has placed all his dominoes counts the points of the dominoes that remain in the hands of the other players and takes them. If no one has placed all of his dominoes, the one who has the fewest points left on his dominoes scores the points.

The first player to reach a total of 100 is the winner. You can set a different total if you want a longer or shorter game.

Variant: who loses wins

  • 28 dominoes
  • 2 to 4 players
  • 2 players, 7 dominoes per player
  • with 3 or 4 players, 6 dominoes per player

The one with the strongest domino starts. The dominoes should be placed one after the other and combined. The doubles are placed perpendicularly.

When a player does not have any dominoes to play, he draws until he has one that he can place, and the first player who has placed all his dominoes is eliminated. Whoever has the most points left wins.

Rule of the memory domino game

  • 28 dominoes
  • 2 to 6 players
  • no distribution; all dominoes are placed points against the table.

The first player turns over two dominoes. If they have an identical half, he keeps them. If not, he leaves them where they are on the table and it is up to the next player to turn over two dominoes. Remember where the dominoes are on the table so that you can turn them over at the right time. The game stops when all the dominoes are taken.

The winner is the one who has collected the most dominoes.

Rule of the domino game – The 5 Everywhere

  • 28 dominoes
  • 2 to 5 players
  • 2 players, 7 dominoes per player
  • 3 or more players, 5 dominoes per player

Whoever has the biggest double starts. If no one has a double, we draw until one player draws a double. He will start by placing that double. As in the classic game, the dominoes are combined (i.e. one side of the domino must have the same number of points as the domino on the table).

The game continues in all four directions around the starting double. You score points during the game, each time you place a domino, the total of “outside” points is a multiple of 5. You don’t have to play, even if you can place a domino, you have the right to skip your turn and draw.

The first player to place all his dominoes scores, in addition to the points earned during the game, the points remaining on the other players’ dominoes rounded up to the nearest multiple of 5. If there are a total of 17 points left on the other players’ dominoes, 15 points are added; if there are 18 points left on the other players’ dominoes, 20 points are added.
